Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). At the age five she moved from London to Oxfordshire to attend The Dragon School. Emma was just six when she made the decision to be an actor. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she was taught acting and singing. From the age of 10 she was involved and performed the main role in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. In 1999 casting began in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for these parts. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was the highest-grossing film of the year 2001. The film was praised by critics who praised the film, and especially the younger actors. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British newspaper, was awed by her for her outstanding performance. Emma received five nominations for her outstanding performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of an Film.
