Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri Dixit is an acclaimed Indian actress known for her role in the movies Beta Saajan and Hum Aapke Hain Kun..! Her first fame was her 1980s role in Tezaab and Tezaab, which she co-starred with the veteran actor Anil Koopor. Her next appearance was in Dil where she shared screen space with Aamir. The daughter of a middle class family in Mumbai she was able to learn dance from a very young age. When she was still in high school, she tried her hand at acting, however most of her early movies did not succeed. Then, she discovered success with Indian filmmaking and rose to the top. In the aftermath of her wedding, she took a brief absence from acting until she returned. Dixit played an important role as a lead actress in Gulaab Gang, a film about women's struggles in India. Dixit was nominated fifteen times in the Filmfare Awards. She won eight of them. Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award awarded to civilians in India is bestowed to Dixit. She has also been recognized by the field of social work.
